Full nightly census of refundable double rooms for each night of 12–19 October, collected 24 Sep 2026 Live quote. Prices include the 800 ISK per room per night accommodation tax. Hotels differ: Hella and Hvolsvöllur ran slightly below Reykjavík's 44,000 median, while Vík hotels ran about 65,000.
Supply, not remoteness. Reykjavík has hundreds of places competing; Vík is a village of a few hundred people on the only road along Iceland's busiest stretch of coast. In July it gets tighter: in our census of the matching July nights, Reykjavík guesthouse rooms ran about 1.35× October and mid-coast ones 1.44×, and in Vík not one guesthouse room with free cancellation was left.
These are a full nightly census within 2 km of central Reykjavík and 15 km of the rural towns (43 Reykjavík, 5–8 per rural town), not a spot-check — but a second booking platform and direct-site prices are still on our list.
